History of St. Francis Xavier

St. Francis Xavier, or Xavier, was born on April 7th, 1506, in Navarre. He was born into a rich farming family, who was instrumental in the establishment of Christianity in India and Japan. St. Francis Xavier was a Spanish Jesuit who lived as a Catholic missionary in the 1500s.He began his study of theology in 1534 and was ordained on 24 June 1537. He was one of the first seven members of the Jesuit order and travelled extensively, particularly in India, South-East Asia and Japan, to share his faith. He is one of the greatest patron saints and is much known for his miracles. Francis Xavier was beatified by Pope Paul V on 25th October 1679, and was canonized by Gregory XV. On 12h March 1622, Pope Pius proclaimed him the Patron of Mission. He died on 3 December, 1552, at the age of 46. His body was then taken to Goa. Though he passed away at a relatively young age, Xavier has accomplished much in his life in a spirit of dedication and zeal. His focus was on his mission.
His death anniversary is remembered in Spain, the land of his birth, as The Day of Navarre. ‘His feast day is celebrated on 3rd December throughout the world and marked as the Xavierian Day in our institution.

INTRODUCTION ABOUT St. XAVIER’S SCHOOL, PURULIA

St. Xavier’s School, Purulia is a High School from Nursery to standard XII, an affiliated unit of the Jamshedpur Diocesan Education Society. It is situated in the western side of Purulia town. Started as a primary school in 1994 in fulfilment of dreams of Fr. Edward De Meulder SJ. It was affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in 2001.

St. Xavier’s School is founded in 1994. It’s a co-educational English medium school. It has obtained permanent No Objection Certificate (N.O.C.) from the West Bengal Government for preparing candidates for the Indian School Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations. The school is now permanently affiliated to the Council in May 2006.

St. Xavier’s School is a Catholic School, established and administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jamshedpur. While the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school rests on the Principal, it has the Managing Committee to help and guide the administration in the welfare and development of the school.

St. Xavier’s School is open to all; irrespective of religious, linguistic, cultural and social afflictions. As a Catholic Minority School, it draws inspiration and guidance from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Hence due importance is given to the faith formation of Catholics, while Moral Science / Value Education is made compulsory for the non catholic students for the development of spiritual and moral values.
