St. Francis Xavier, or Xavier, was born on April 7th, 1506, in Navarre. He was born into a rich farming family, who was instrumental in the establishment of Christianity in India and Japan. St. Francis Xavier was a Spanish Jesuit who lived as a Catholic missionary in the 1500s. He began his study of theology in 1534 and was ordained on 24 June 1537.
He was one of the first seven members of the Jesuit order and travelled extensively, particularly in India, South-East Asia and Japan, to share his faith. He is one of the greatest patron saints and is much known for his miracles. Francis Xavier was beatified by Pope Paul V on 25th October 1679, and was canonized by Gregory XV. On 12h March 1622, Pope Pius proclaimed him the Patron of Mission. He died on 3 December, 1552, at the age of 46. His body was then taken to Goa. Though he passed away at a relatively young age, Xavier has accomplished much in his life in a spirit of dedication and zeal. His focus was on his mission. His death anniversary is remembered in Spain, the land of his birth, as The Day of Navarre. ‘His feast day is celebrated on 3rd December throughout the world and marked as the Xavierian Day in our institution.
